Pakistan's Peoples Party vice-chairman Makhdoom Amin Fahim has offered to stand aside for Asif Ali Zardari in the race for premiership. The party said that it will announce a candidate for the top post by Thursday. Fahim was initially a front-runner for the premiership but was sidelined by Zardari, party chairman and widower of former premier Benazir Bhutto, following reports that he had secretly met President Pervez Musharraf and members of the military establishment.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has said that India has taken up the matter of Sarabjit Singh, who is on death row in Pakistan, with Islamabad at the highest level.
In a reply to a letter from Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, Singh assured him that the government is making all possible efforts to seek a reprieve for Sarabjit, who is scheduled to be hanged on April 1, Prime Minister's media adviser Sanjaya Baru said in a statement.

Describing the Sino-Indian border row as a "complex issue", Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao on Tuesday said it cannot be resolved overnight and that "new progress" would be made in the negotiations as long as both countries showed sincerity and "mutual accommodation".
"It is no easy task to resolve such a complex issue left from the past and we cannot expect that the issue will be resolved overnight," Wen said.
